Yep, Walla Walla WA is home to a couple of my favorite wineries and unfortunately I have never been there. Around five years ago I started to really enjoy great Syrahs and I have been stuck on the waitlist for notable Syrah makers such as Saxum in Paso Robles CA and Cayuse which is located in Walla Walla. Christophe (no r on the end - maybe I'll do that when I get famous for writing this blog) Baron the noted winemaker founded Cayuse when he discovered stone-covered farmland in the area. While I still patiently wait for a Cayuse allocation, the first Walla Walla winery that accepted my currency and reputation was Reynvaan Family Vineyards. In a similar location to Cayuse, this family winery began with their first vintage in 2007 and haven't let up, consistently scoring in the 90's. The wine I opened yesterday was their 2015 Foothills Reserve. This wine comes from their Foothills in the Sun vineyard. Classic WA syrah - gamey, peppery, minerals galore. Below is a picture of the stone-covered vines (uh yea it really is stone-covered) along with a couple of pictures from my wine over the weekend (Matanzas Creek) and their lovely lavender plants (along with my lovely wife). Cheers
