Back At It

It's been over a year since I blogged on my attempt to finish off my 1200 bottles of wine in my cellar. After a few years I have consumed 283 bottles but still have 1,080 in my cellar. I have really cut down on wine purchases over recent years, mainly just purchasing from wineries where I have finally received allocations after numerous years on their wait list - yes that's you Saxum and Cayuse! On a side note, my cellar tracker wine inventory software shows I ("we" including my wife and friends) have drank 1,111 bottles of wine over the years since I have used this software (probably over the past 15 years). So cheers to four ones (is that good luck in Chinese culture?) That number does not include wines I don't inventory such as most white wines due to their limited aging (ie buy and drink). Anyhow, enough with the numbers geeking and onto the most recent wine.

Last night we had a 2010 Anomaly Designation - which is their best red blend. Strangely I can't find the exact blend of this bottle (their website doesn't show it nor did a search of the web). Critics scored it a 94 and both Moshira and I really enjoyed it. Definitely blackberry and plum flavors and very smooth (not much tannins after 15 years). We paired it with a grass fed ribeye grilled over hickory wood (my specialty) and grilled shrimp along with yukon gold potatoes and roasted broccoli.

We stumbled upon this winery probably 15 years ago. It's in the heart of Napa almost bordering St Helena. When we asked the owner about the somewhat unique name (IMO) he said the soil on his vineyards is an "anomaly" because of the Sulphur Creek that runs into the property giving it a very gravelly cobbly sandy loam (his words not mine). Their wines can be found retail here in DFW at Central Market or Bevmo. Cheers to wine #283.
