Rise Up Red Sea

Huge win today for both the Cardinals (aka the Red Sea) over the Cowboys, and the Bills Mafia. So I'll toast their wins with Day 2 of the 2014 Donum Russian River pinot noir. Despite the winery being located in Carneros, they also own vineyards throughout northern California including the esteemed Russian River area near Healdsburg. My first ever wine trip was in December 1993 with my wife Moshira and we visited Healdsburg all the way back then to celebrate her birthday. I remember driving thru the town and wondering where all the wineries were. We stopped at Simi which is located just north of the town before finding out about the Dry Creek wineries just outside of town. Anyway, Donum didn't exist back then (made their first wines in 2001) but it introduced me to the wonderful pinots produced in this area back then (Rochioli, Gary Farrell, Martinelli, and Williams Selyem to name a few).

This 2014 wine has wonderful plum/berry flavors. In reading the tech sheet this wine comes from their Winside vineyard which was planted back in 1997. Day 2 the flavors are slightly softer but still enjoyable and drinkable. Admittedly my taste buds are still dulled by all the medicine I have been taking to get over this damn head cold/invisible enemy that tested negative.

I currently have over 90 bottles of Donum that I'll be drinking over the next decade, including three more of this exact bottle. I originally bought six and have now consumed three. Looking forward to my last day off tomorrow (Monday 1/4) before entering the Super Bowl of accounting (year end closing of the books). Cheers. chris
